Battle-Mech: the Walker (work in progress)

A Battle-Mech, stomping towards his targets. Modeling, Materials, "Rigging", Animation, Particles and Rendering done in roughly two days. Obviously not mapped and textured...yet. I wanted to see what it would look like in action. So, here it is.
It's so much fun to animate these things, I will definitely do more of this. :)

The mischievous rogue

The mischievous rogue - another good friend of mine and former roommate. Happy Birthday and take notice of the cards and the knives :)

The valiant knight

The valiant knight. Another character design exercise, armor is based on the battle-angel concepts but heavier and with more bulk. It was finished just in time to be a birthday present for a good friend of mine. The face (and, of course, also the rest :) is in his likeness - and his last name "coincidentally" is translated as "knight".

Concept Art - Battle Angel

Concept Art for an angel design I am working on. Different ideas concerning armor, weaponry and overall badass-ness. :)

Corpse-Brided - work in progress

I got a mysterious phonecall today. While ringing, the display just showed T. Burton.
In a husky voice he whispered: "Okay kiddo. Johnny is out and you're in. IF you can dress the part. Welcome to the sequel."

Totally unrelated: I made a corpse bride self-portrait. I know, Victors arms and legs are a lot longer and thinner, but compared to him I am the incredible hulk. On second thought: Everyone alive is. Which might be the point.
At first I tried the grey-ish-blue-purple skin color of the movie figurines but it looked off. Didn't like it. I'm working hard on my tan! The world shall see it!

Next step: create a nice background to stand around in.
The step after that: do a hulk version of me. SMASH!

Desert Tank "Beast"

Two half days of work later and I present you: the desert tank. It's big, dirty and has seen better days (...maybe there is some truth to the old saying, that a piece of art mirrors the artist. What is definitely true is that I invented the foregoing old saying on the spot.)
I learned a lot by designing and making this piece, mostly how to not kill my computer while going nuts on detail.

One Day Challenge - the Tank

I wanted to see what I could accomplish in a day. On top of that, a beautiful summer day. So I challenged myself with this beast of a tank. Still missing a few details, but I had to catch a few breaths of fresh air inbetween.
Anyway, in case of a zombie-apocalypse (and yes, there are a lot of people who wish for one) this will be my ride to the grocery store to stack up on brains...I mean food. Food. Yes...

Woodsprite

Not much to say. It's a woodsprite, an inhabitant of a dark, enchanted forest. Not quite the place where princesses get lost (in a happy, careless way) and start singing/dancing with a bunch of little birds or other critters. More like a place where evil witches, satyrs, scrubby wolves etc... you get the picture.
The mask is partly inspired by Kaonashi, the creepy creature from "Spirited away", partly by african tribal masks. I tried a traditional tree face before, but I like the emotionless stare and the white mask is a neat focal point.

the "Queen of Spiders" - work in progress

My first iteration of a sculpted spider, a mixture of various kinds of arachnids.
Here's the thing about this piece: I can't stand spiders. When I see one, I don't bother with search&rescue missions via dustpan or glass. I just plain kill them because they are sneakily invading my territory.
While sculpting this thing, starting from a pudgy blob to this nasty crawler, I felt a growing uneasyness, especially while working on it's face...head...meh. I believe it might be because as humans, we are trained to recognize other humans in all kinds of circumstances. A face in the clouds, Jesus in a burnt toast, Elvis in a sweaty stain on your bowling-shirt.
In this case, I stared at a face with eight unfriendly looking eyes and a mouth with a set of sharp mandibles and my brain kept comparing it to a human head...

...I will continue this piece.

In daylight.

multiple exclamation marks!!!

...that's how people look like who use them in online conversations.

The penguin is a clever metaphor - it symbolizes, in a freudian way, the recursive notion of deep uncertainty in our deepest selves, flung into the world without explanation or guidance, dependant on forces we can't and can not even hope to understand, wondering where we will end up in this vast universe...

...meh. Sometimes, a strange looking penguin ist just a strange looking penguin. Nothing to see here. Move along.

the tiny tired tapir

YAAAAAAAWN.......!

I got down with a small case of the common cold the other day. While resting in my pillow-fort (my safe hiding place from evil germs), my nose felt exactly like the plump snout of a tapir. Finally, when I opened my window to start the day, the sun greeted me with a hearty and warm "Hello stranger! Get to work!"
That's how the tapir came into existence.

Crime Noir

It was a cold and quiet night.
In the gloomy shine of the moon, two people met at a secluded graveyard. They could see the breath of each other, rising and dispersing in the chilly, wet air.
They had not seen each other for a long time and both were anxious to find out, what the other mysterious figure had in store at that fateful night.
It is a story of friendship, of betrayal, of dangers and wonders, of misguided expectations and evil schemes, of a mission which leads two people through a city that never sleeps. Well, maybe it sleeps from time to time, but you can't tell for sure. Maybe it's just pretending. Maybe it's hiding something.

Something.......noir.....
